Anne here. Dieline asks if this new packaging from Commes des Carcons represents a new style in beauty packaging, one that moves away from a prior standard of minimalism.
What is clear in my mind, scanning Dieline and then Style.com for new runway photos, is a “moment of balance”, a cohesive brand style between CDC beauty and CDC fashion.
Minimalism may be the past design mode for CDC beauty packaging, but CDC fashion — the primary image of the brand — has been high-voltage print and color, urban, layered Crazy Daze, uncurated, non-intellectual and irrational, exuberant, digital culture design.
In the Spring 09 rtw collections, this Stephen Jones beauty brand message is in total sync with the CDC rtw collection. From a customer’s point of view, peace reigns in the creative kingdom.
